Hi Srinivas ranga
Infopackage groups:
This are used to grouping the infopackges in to a single folder and run thos
packges in sequence. These are mostly used in prior to the 3.x version.
How ever now also some are using this.
The major purpose is to automate the loads
The disadvange is if say suppose u r infopackage grouping is having 20 - 30
infopaks .Any failure occured in 15 th pak u need to trigger remaing all infopaks in
sequence according to the ipggroup. and its only for the purpose of loading the
data i mean just triggering the loads and events .
Process Chains:
From 3.x onwords to automate loads as well as process like Openhub, ababp
programs or activations or etc., We are using this process chains.
Coming to the major advantage
Like eariler infopakge groups if any pak fails we need to trigger all the loads
manully .wher as in Pchaing just correct that particular ipak and repaeat from that
particular process .it will take care abt remaing subsequent chain .
And also we can trigger parallel loads as well in this. Its much user friendly in
monitoring.

Hi,
Process chains are used to automate all your dataloads whereas Infopackage groups are used to group the infopackages. In BW2.X versions when Process chains Infopackage groups were used extensively to automate the loads using Event chains. Infopackage groups are still supported in BW3.X but are used in rare cases.

simple..
infopackage group..scope is limited to just infopackage..that too they run one-by-one..not in parallel..
in process chains..u can have almost any process type..infopackage..activate ODS..load ODS/Cube..delete contents from cube/ODS..rollup of aggregates..compression..drop and create indexes..kick off ABAP program..send messages on step failure..
u cant do all this in infopackage group!
