Hi,
BW Gurus,
we have business content extractors with all requirements, why do we go for
customized generic extractor by creating a data source by using table/view etc
please tell me some scenario on generic extraction.
because u might get a requirement where BC datasource does not have all the required fields..
--so if u r able..u can take a BC datasource that has most of the required fields..and then enhance..
--or if there isnt any BC extractor that satisfies atleast part of the requirement..then u have to go for generic extractor on table/view/FM..

Hi ,
In some cases Business Content will not give your required data sources , In such scenarios you need to develope your own data sources ( Views / Function modules ) , Then you can bring that data source to BW and use that .
We all know different business has different scenarios and requirements , To accomplish it's hard for SAP to come up with all. So, if you can't find the suitable business content data source then you have to create on your own data source
( Generic ) or enhance the given data source.
So if Standard busines content is not suitable for your requirment you go for generic extraction ( If needed )

Hi,
welcome to SDN!
As suggested by the earlier posts, we go for generic extraction only when SAP pre defined datasources (business content) does not meet our requiremnts.SAP has defined evrything Presuming the business scenarios. But at times, that may not be good enough. In these typical scnarios we generate our own datasource using table/view/FM to excatly meet the fields/requirements.And yes, it is also possible to have delta updates from generic data sources!
Thanks,
Ravi

Hi lakshmi,
It is not necessary to go for generic.
there are some to use generic.
1.if ur business requirement suits the existing data sources no probs.
I willgive u one ex. u need 10 extra fields .All are standar fields but these fields are available in diffrent tables .first u have to enhance the fields then u have to right a code to extract the data idividually and put al to gether in one place.
In generic we are creating a table directly based on these fields .and just we are using table.or u can use functional modules for this.
But most propably generic d.s are full upload only
Thanks

Hi aluru lakshmi ,
We use customized generic extractor mainly because..
1. Business Content may not be including a Data Source for your application.
2. Business Content may require additional enhancements that need data that is not supplied by SAP BW.
3. The application may not feature its own generic data extraction method.
4. We have used our own programs to fill tables in SAP system.
Solutions are:
1. Functional Modules
2. Infoset Queries
3. Table/Views.

Hi Lakshmi,
Welcome to SDN!!
When the standard SAP provided data source does not serve our purpose OR when we are using ztables then we go in for generic extractors.
Generic Extractors can also be delta-enabled.
