BUILD SANDBOX on IBM I Series

Dear Experts,

We are planning to build sandbox system ( SAP ECC 6.0 ) using production data.

Please let me know all the possible methods to achieve this.

All the systems ( DEV, PRD) are on the same host with different instance numbers.

Would there be any technical challenges if I go ahead and do the below,

1. Install SANDBOX and then refresh it with production system backup. Will there be any impact on the DEV system or PRD system while doing system refresh in SANDBOX using Production system database backup ( taken using GO SAVE command).

or

2. Can I use SAVLIB/RSLIB commands to build SANDBOX ?

Greatly appreciate your help,

Thanks and Regards,

Chiranjeevi

    Dear Chiranjeevi,

the System Copy guide for IBM i is the answer of your question if your ERP 6.0 is based on NW 7.3 or higher:

System Copy for SAP Systems Based on the Application Server ABAP of SAP NetWeaver 7.1 to 7.5 on IBM i (current link is: https://websmp101.sap-ag.de/~sapidb/011000358700001324492012E)

First you have to build up your sandbox system using the system copy option and the export of your production system. For details of the SAVLIB/RSTLIB method see the section Database-Specific System Copy > IBM DB2 for i Specific Procedure

Afterwards for every refresh of your sandbox by your production data use the Refresh Database Content option. For more details see the section Copying Single Instances Only > Copying the Database Only – Refresh Database Content (Also here you can use the SAVLIB/RSTLIB method.)

Hint: The procedure for a Homogenous System Copy and a Refresh Database Content is quite similar when using the SAVLIB/RSTLIB method. First you do a manual export of your production data by using the SAVLIB command. Then you start the SWPM to import the data (Homogeneous System Copy or Refresh Database Content). The SWPM is using internally the RSTLIB command to import the data.

    Good luck.

    Kind regards, Ralf Büscher

    Hi Chiranjeevi.

You can perform the system copy on IBM-i either SAP standard method (Export the source and import the same in target system) or on IBM-i from source system(Production) SAVLIB Normal offline backup & target using SAP SWPM you can restore the sandbox system different SID. refer the sap note 585277, Refer the system copy guide as mentioned by Ralf.

    Regards
