End User List of Preferred Languages

Former Member

We are attempting to reduce the number of preferred languages the end user has to choose from (from personalize link in Portal go to user profile and select language).

We have followed the instructions according to SAP documentation on the following site: http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04s/helpdata/en/49/e607426338da6fe10000000a1550b0/frameset.htm

We have deleted all of the languages_xx.properties files from the .ear file we do not need and have re-uploaded it to the portal and restarted the entire system. We also edited the existing languages_xx.properties files in the .ear to only list the languages we want. In addition, we have also tried manually uploading new languages_xx.properties files in config-tool according to the instructions. Still, nothing works.

Are we missing something? Any one else successfully implement this?

Michael W.,

Support for this procedure was withdrawn in SPS 5. See the following release note:

http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04s/helpdata/en/43/2f50dcc0750b18e10000000a1553f6/frameset.htm

I am afraid that does not fix your problem, but at least you know why it does not work. I am disappointed to see the procedure still available on the Help Portal, though it does not appear in the structure in the navigation pane at least.

Hi Michael S,

Thanks for your update. No wonder even when I tried it it did not work. Im on SP 6

I think Michael W will have to modify the ear/war file and deploy it without the config tool approach.

And when I could not use this method I used Michael Nichols' blog. I solved my problem.

Thanks for the help guys. I suppose I could use the code from the blog to develop a whole new user profile module that used a few custom lists of languages based on the language a user currently had selected.

I could probably also switch back to the old dyn page apps it might work then also, but that would shut down all of the dynpro apps!

What a pain!

Thanks for the help!

The old JSP UI can be enabled, but only up to SR2 (SPS 9?). After that the JSP user administration console is no longer included.

Check out my recent blog about making a dedicated iView that allowed for the user to select their language...

It's <a href="https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/weblogs?blog=/pub/wlg/4551">here</a>
