Client Copy for Solution Manager

I am doing a clean Solution Manager 7.2 install. In doing the install I am looking at whether I should create a copy of client 001 and use it for productive use. This is a small shop so Solution Manager has a few users. For 7.1 I made a copy but there were enough cross client errors when doing the configuration that I just deleted it and used 001. For you folks that have implemented 7.2 did you use the default client and if so did you end up wishing you had made a copy. I understand this is a generalized question I am just curious about what users experience has been. From the documentation SAP seems to be telling you use client 001 unless you have special needs which is not this place.

Thank You

Troy

Dear Troy,

If there is no special scenario that you are using and not a lot of users that are going to be using SOLMAN, then it is better to use 001 as your production client.

In case you do want to make a new production client then make sure you perform a local client copy using profile SAP_UCSV with 000 as source client, and 001 for the source client user masters.

Hi Troy,

I did a fresh installation where I used 001 for initial setup and other one was an upgrade from 7.1 where I used existing client.

To your question - I didn't face any issue when I used a different client. What is the exact error that you are getting while doing solman_setup?

It was with 7.1 when I was trying to do managed system configuration. That is when I found the SAP recommendation that it isn't necessary to create a new client for Solution Manager unless you had special cases. I got rid of the 7.1 install and rebuilt the server from scratch to do a fresh install of 7.2 on Windows server 2012. I am just getting started on the abap side of the configuration and was just wondering what other 7.2 users had done. SAP's advice is still the same, you don't need to copy the client unless it is a specific cases.

Hi Troy,

001 is like a template so it is always better to copy from 001 to other client and make it as productive for your environment.

That is a SAP Standard policy going back to our first R3 3.1I install. According to SAP Solution Manager is an exception. When you implemented 7.2 did you make a copy of client 001 and if so did you have issues with cross client errors when running solman_setup.
