Hi all,
I'm a beginner. Can anybody tell me the difference between restricting the values using filter and restricting the values of characteristics using variables?
Can anybody send me documents on reporting.
Hi Deepti,
Restricting the values using filter option is at a global level as compared to restricting the values based on characteristics which is at an individual level...
say for eg:, you want to restrict all the products of a particular company based on a specific Profit centre (1001 for eg), then you do this using the filter... but if it requires that you want to restrict only certain characteristics for a particular value, then you create a restricted key figure and restrict it based on the characteristic itself (in this case, the profit center 1001)... this is w.r.t only that particular value and this restriction is not applicable for the entire selection...
Hope it helps..
Regards
Manick

Hi ,
If you restricting the values using filter the report will be display based on given filter values. if you restrict the chars using variable then you have to give the variable value to execute the query.

Dear Deepti,
Restricting the values using filter means restricting for specific values in query designer and restricting using variables gives you an option at the query execution time.
there are various type of variable according to requirments.
send your mail Id for Docs.
