Use of Active Vehicules and MTRs in Automatic Planning with Schedules

Hello Experts,

The problem I have is the following:

When running the VSR optimizer, it doesnt take into account the vehicles and their capacities to create the Freight Orders, but only takes into account the available Schedules. That is, the created FOs have a Schedule but not a vehicle.

The problem with this is that the optimizer doesn't consider the corresponding MTR in the constraints, and therefore, I can't use custom cost functions configured in the Planning Profile for specific MTRs. The fact that it is not optimized based on the capacity of the vehicles is not a problem, but it does matter that the personalized cost functions are not taken into account.

Note that the MTR isnt configured with the flag as a Schedule MTR, so the transport cockpit proposes vehicles associated with this MTR for optimization.

I have also tried by associating to Schedule a Schedule MTR and I set up for this Schedule MTR the custom cost functions in the Planning Profile, but it does not work either. Could you give me your help? regards

hi Juan,

check your capacity selection settings assigned to the planning profile and verify that you are selecting resources AND schedules. In addition, check your planning cost settings, especially the basis for quantity costs. One of the options includes only schedules. Choose "distance-dependent cost". make sure, you have a FO type with a road means of Transport assigned and that it is defaulted in the planning Profile Chosen. You also need a lane with your locations and the means of Transport road. The optimizer will try to create a FO with a resource. Try doing it manually with the same Parameters and make sure charge calculation is working for the carrier that you have assigned in the lane and will be defaulted using your planning strategy (1step).

Optimizing with vehicles is pretty normal, especially for road transportation. It will work. Good luck. Petra

Planning with resources and schedules at the same time will be available after release 9.4. For now, you have to run the optimizer with schedules first (for example empty FOs to get the right dates) and run it again with vehicles and the related empty FOs (to get the capacity limitation). As you say, both can be assigned to one FO, but the optimizer cannot consider both for now. Not sure if the empty FO Option is possible for your Scenario, otherwise you have to upgrade.

Dear Petra,

We are on TM9.4 and I tried to assign a resource to a schedule, but unfortunately could not find the resource field in "create Schedule" transaction. Where can we enter it? Or is it a planning setting where first schedules are a assigned to FO's and later resources are assigned to FO's(which are based on schedules).

Thank you for your response.

I still can't make optimizer create a FO both with Vehicle Resources and with Schedule's. It is always with one or the other. I understand that the optimizer compare two cost results and choose the most cheaper. Then, when the schedule´s cost is zero, the FO is created with schedules but without Vehicle Resource, and when the schedule´s cost is most expensive that the MTR cost, the FO is created with Vehicle Resource but it is ignoring Schedule Rules and Departures.

I have checked the following:

- Transportation Lanes has configured MTR's and carriers correctly.

- Schedule Type is configured with Capacities and Transportation Costs in Customizing.

- Capacity Selection Settings: I configured MTR´s and Schedules on its corresponding tabs.

- The basis for quantity costs is configured with "distance-dependent cost" option.

The most curious is that if the created FO doesn´t has any vehicle resourse but it has a Schedule, after the optimization i can add it a vehicle without problems. So, there must be some way for the resulting FO to be created with Schedules and Vehicles Resources optimally.
