XI in SAP to SAP environment

How well does XI fit into an SAP - SAP environment.

We are migrating data from 4.5B to ECC 6.0.

We can use ALE for the communication between these systems

But how can we justify the usage of XI.

Docs or links on this would also help me

Hi,

XI is very good at exposing SAP functionality to outter world using webservices. Thanks XI you also are able to connect using many different adpapters (file, SOAP, mail, RFC, IDOC and other). The bigest advantage of using it, is having all cross application connections in one place another is that XI is fallowing common standards (SOAP, XML, XSLT, XSD, DTD). It also easier to hire new people.

Please check presentations on service marketplace:

Hi,

In case of SAP to SAP environement where u have ALE/IDoc configuration which can do wonders the Q does arise how do we justify this?

1. In such scenario its more to do with landscape perspective. If the company has a policy that all the Interface will go through a middleware then u will have to use XI irrespective of SAP to SAP or SAP to non-SAP. this really helps in keeping track during maintenance phase

2. If there is a uniform error handling mechanism tht the company follows then its better to use the middleware.

3. if the landscape has more then one environment of SAP when the data goes from SAP to SAP and also to non-SAP then its justified to use it.

Just my thoughts.
