CTS for SAP BW HANA fails with RC 8

We have HANA transports moving from development to Quality and Production systems. Many times we have seen that the transport logs shows RC 8 showing message Error in Deployment in both QA and Prod but the required changes are moved to the target systems. Any pointers on why we would be getting the RC 8 even when the changes are moving successfully?

Hi Ninand,

RC 8 means (1) Syntax error (2) Program generation error (3) Dictionary activation error (4) Method execution error.

Based on my experience sometimes Data Dictionary objects are moved to target system and but could not be activated! Once we check objects in the target system we see all objects are there but if some dictionary objects may be in not activated status; that's might be the reason for RC 8.

Thanks Tuncay.

Do you know how we can check and confirm the dictionary objects are not in activated status and is there any way to activate it so that the transports don't fail with RC 8? We see the required objects or reporting views are activated when we check in HANA studio even when transports have RC 8.

Ninad,

If you go to SE11 and check the dictionory object you can see that it's active, inactive or partially active. If an object is not active if you have proper authorization even in target system without developer key you can still active the object (simply clicking activate button). The issue with transports and dictionary objects is if the object is used in many places (like data element is used for many structures and tables), the transport process's duty is check and activate all related object as well. So the transport import or post-import take more time. If you have this type of situation you need to plan your transport import accordingly and get enough off-line time for your target system.
