Precalculating and Distributing Workbooks

Hello everybody,

we want to distribute workbooks via e-mail to our users. On <a href="http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/05/0e044017355c0ce10000000a1550b0/content.htm">help.sap.com -->Precalculation and Distributing Workbooks</a> I can find lots of information about that. I can send it as a workbook or as a ZIP-file. So my question is:

When I send the workbook as a zip-file, does the recipient also need a local installation of the BW front end or is it possible to open the file as a common Excel file?

Does anybody have any information about that?

Any help appreciated.

When you send as a workbook the end user need not have Bex front-end.

I alread went through that help but there is no definite statement that says that I dont need the front end. On the contrary at the end of this link <a href="http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/05/0e044017355c0ce10000000a1550b0/content.htm">http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/05/0e044017355c0ce10000000a1550b0/content.htm</a> there is the statement that 'The recipient of the file needs a local installation of the BW front end to be able to logon to the BW system and navigate within the data.'. So my question is if in case of distributing a workbook as zip-file I also need the front end.

Dear Martin,

The end user need no front-end for what you have mailed to him. It remains statiic. But if the user wants to navigate thru the results a connection with the server is definitely for which you need front-end. When you mail a workbook and if the user need not navigate thru the results, the end user don't need the front-end.
