User Mapping & SAP Gateway Scenario Question

Current landscape: SAP NW Portal as the consumer portal which integrates WebDynpro JAVA, WebDynpro ABAP and UI5 applications within the portal for end users to access. Some of these end users have user id's greater than 12 characters and we have user the SAP NW Portal system as the user mapping system. The SAP NW Portal is also integrated with Active Directory and uses ADFS for authentication. Authentication to SAP ECC is via SAP Logon Tickets.

Future Landscape: In the near future we would be getting rid of the WebDynpro JAVA applications and moving them to WebDynpro A or UI5 based technology. In such a case it seems unnecessary to have an SAP Portal in the landscape since I could potentially use SAP Gateway as the front end server and use Fiori Launchpad as the entry point for my users.

If I have to get rid of SAP NW Portal, I have the option of configuring authentication for SAP Gateway (Front End Server) via ADFS. However how do I address the users with who have user id's greater than 12 characters? I do not have the ability to introduce a new attribute in the LDAP - that is simple not an option.

Given the above, what would the best case scenario be for me to move away from SAP NW Portal as the entry point for my users?

Hi Daniel,

Have you considered the Netweaver SSO v3.0 product?
