You need a BPM for this.

But doesnt it slowdown the system performance if we keep using BPM for all these simple scenario. In other middleware like webMethods and TIBCO u dont need to involve BPM at all for this scenario. So, does that mean XI performance will be bad compared to webMethods or Tibco in this kind of scenario?

You need to use BPM becuase file adapter cannot work in a sync mode.
Refer to the blog suggested in Bhavesh's reply. That's a good one to start of with.
Also, instead of RFC, call WebService through SOAP Receiver Adapter.
For this, you need to have WSDL from webservice imported into External Definition in Repository.
