Running BRARCHIVE while online BRBACKUP is running

I am looking for a way of pruning BW Oracle archive files by running 'brarchive' with '-sd'(save and delete) option, every hour. Just want to verify running 'brarchive with -sd' option is OK while online 'brbackup' is running.

We are running

Oracle 9.2.0.7 and BRBACKUP 6.4

If you are running a Online_Cons full backup then it will lock the Archives that will be generated during the time when the backup is running. BrArchive will get a RC of > 0, but you can still schedule the Brarchive -sd

There are two "different" types of "online" backups.

You can perform an online_consistent backup. This backup will call brarchive and can conflict with other running brarchive at the same time.

Then you also have the "online" backup that will run only brbackup.

You can find detailed information on the online help. For example:

Consistent Online Backup:

Online Backup:

BRBACKUP -t option:

Do you know if you can have brarchive backup 100 archives at a time? And not the entire oraarch directory at a time?

Yes,you can run brarchive while brbackup is running. We have this kind of backup schedules. But please note that online backup includes datafiles as well as archive files.

Also, I believe that brbackup locks the archive logs that are created while the backup is running, so it will have a consistent backup.

So, these newly created archive logs will not be deleted by brachive.

This is my understanding but I could be wrong.
