I'd like to speak to someone that has experience with large (20TB) client export/import or remote client copy. Long story short, I've got a 20+TB ECC SUN/Oracle instance that I need to copy to a Windows/SQL system in the cloud (yes I know it's nasty).

Thanks,

Mark

Hi Mark,

It is a system export/import then, not a client export.

Refer heterogenous system copy method to execute this.

Thank you Harish I appreciate and understand that but that's not the question. I'm looking for anyone that has actually tried this; I'm looking for the good, bad and just ugly. I suspect no one reading this has but, again if you don't ask you never know.

Hi Mark,

With that amount of data, and the target system is running on Cloud, I won't even consider remote client copy.

Now for client export/import, the situation is also not that good, imagine the storage space you'll need to make the client export and the system downtime? Also how long it will take to transfer those files to the Cloud machine?

If it's a Oracle to Oracle migration with same platform, then there are a lots of option on the table, using Data Guard, RMAN backup/recovery etc.

Can you tell us what's the goal and business need for such a bold move? Maybe together we can think about a better way?

Regards,

Michael
