Inbound delivery

What is the purpose of inbound delivery? We can prepare the GR using PO directly. Then why inbound delivery is used in between?

Hi ,

Inbound delivery is a kind of confirmation. Once we do an inbound delivery : it works to be very useful information for other functional areas like Planning - can be sure that the quanity as done in in bound to be available , the goods receiving department and the inspection deprtments can do the work scheduling as may be required depending on the information in the in bound.

Ex : On a certain date , if we are expecting 10 trucks of material - Goods receiving dept can make arrangements to receive, un load etc, inspection dept can arrange manpower, instrumentation etc for inspection purposes. While most importantly , we can have customisation to consider all inbound quantities as available for MRP.

How ever , such functionality is determined by the customisation done in the Set Up confirmation cotrol in SPRO.

For achieving the above purpose , inbound deliveries are utilised.

We can do the GR directly with refernce to the PO , but in that case , you will not have the above mentioned advantages.

Hope this information helps.

Dear Mr. Raghuramam,

Thanks for the information. It is really very helpful.

In continuation of the same, I would like to ask few questions:

1. Does it play any role in deciding customs duty, unplanned freight charges etc.?

2. If MRP is activated for one company code in client, but not for other com. codes in the same client, is it possible that we can use inbound delivery for first com. code and no inb. del. for others?

3. How can we have list of inb. del. for which no GR is prepared?

4. What is the difference between inb. del. and rough GR?

Thanks in advance...

Hi,

Please find here the answers following each of your questions:

1. Does it play any role in deciding customs duty, unplanned freight charges etc.?

Confirmations are useful only for planning various related activities.Hence an in bound in no way can decide on the customs duty and the un planned freight cost.

2. If MRP is activated for one company code in client, but not for other com. codes in the same client, is it possible that we can use inbound delivery for first com. code and no inb. del. for others?

If you have not activated MRP for a particular co. code , then the feature of Planning related utilities will be redundadnt in confirmations. So you can use In bound deliveries for BOTH the comapny codes i.e with/ without MRP active.

3. How can we have list of inb. del. for which no GR is prepared?

Use t.code VL33N for getting the lists of inbound deliveries.

4. What is the difference between inb. del. and rough GR?

Inbound delivery is a confirmation.

In some business processes rough GR is used a notional goods receipt entered in system to initiate the process of quantity and quality verification, in such processes , its prefered to enter the exact quantities after verification, as GR , so as to avoid corrections/errors in Goods receipt process, and to ensure that the data in system always reflects correct liabilities/ assets only.

Hope you will find this information useful.
