Place a file into bw application server

Hello friends!

I have to upload data to a cube from a CSV file. This file must be placed into bw application server and I don´t know how to place it.

Could anybody help me?

Hi Carmen,

it depends on the policy and the authorizations on the network.

There are two common possibilities to transfer file in application:

NTS (like copy with explorer) -

FTP (with an ftp client) -

For every case there are FunctionModule and program in SAP to move files. For NTS there are many FM,

for ftp there are the example programs: RSFTP001....RSFTP011.

Hi Carmen,

placing a flat file inte the BW application server means storing the file in any directory on the server. So you will need authorization to access the disk system on your server. Later creating the InfoSources you will be asked for the specific path to the file on the server.

There is also the possibility to load a flat file from the client. You will be asked to select the input file from your own harddisk. The difference is that you must stay connected to this server until the upload is finished and that files on application server are more appropriate to automate load via process chain or similar...
