Indexing of text documents vs. multimedia files - optimization

Hi guys!

I need to optimize indexing in the portal enviroment (trex).. We have a lot of multimedia files and also word and text document in the same CM repository, but different folders, of course. How to optimize indexing, when we need to use search through Description?

I don't know, how the trex works, so - I want it to go through whole text documents (and description), but it is enough to index name and description for multimedia files.

How to solve this issue?

One more question: how to set the exact properties, which I want to use for search? (which should be included in the index?)

Thanx for answer! Points are guaranteed!

Peter

Hi Peter,

When you go to TREX directory you will find a ini-file called TREXValidMimeType.ini. There you find a list of all indexable file types. TREX automatically indexes only the name and the properties sent by KMC, if a file is not a Text file. Therefore there is nothing you have to configure here. Text files are indexed completely, you can do a full text search on them afterwards.

If you put text files and non text files into the same index, no problem - they are still treated according to their file type. So in this case, TREX is here standardized to work the way you want it.

Regrading properties: TREX indexes all properties that were maintained in KMC.

hope this helps,

Bettina
