Communication Between BEx and SAP BW systems

hi all,

I run my reports using BEx.i need clarification on the following questions.

1)How Excel and SAP BW interact?

2)How does the SAP BW system know that Excel(BEx Report) has been closed/active?

3)Is there communication between Excel and SAP BW?
