BI Upgrade-Solution Manager, Web Dispatcher, IGS, Office 2003

We are planning on upgrading BW 3.1 to NW2004s BI. I would appreciate your valueable input on the following:

1. Is Solution Manager Mandatory for BI Upgrade? We don't have expertise in our team on this piece, so I was wondering if it is really required.

2. Currently, we have set up a server to run the Web Dispatcher so that public Internet users can access BW cubes via a secured custom intranet application. Do we need to do anythinng special with this piece during / after upgrade?

3. We have an IGS for Charts/Graphs in BW 3.1. Do we need to do anythinng special with this piece during / after upgrade?

4. I heard from some one that we need Office 2003 installed for all users? Could you clarify if this mandatory?

Thanks

Srini

    Hi Srini,

    1. No, not necessary to use SM.

    2. Normally you should upgrade your webdispatcher too.

    3. IGS is built-in now. You will need to run some chart conversions.

    4. As far as I'm aware not required.

    Hope this helps,

    Pieter

    Hi,

    3) Before calling the migration report you have to temporarily install the standalone IGS 6.40 on Win32. After migrating the charts uninstall this IGS and use the integrated IGS 7.00.

Thank you. The answers are very helpful. I awarded points.

I would appreciate if anyone else could provide definite answers to questions 2 (Web Dispatcher) and 4 (Office 2003).

      Thanks

    Hi Srinivas,

Regarding point 4. Office 2003 deffinately not mandatory.

BEx in SAP NetWeaver BI 2004s supports MS Office 2000 and Office XP, SP2. The BEx Analyzer supports Excel 2002, SP2 and higher. There is no support for MS Office 97.

For more information, see SAP Note 103174.

    regards,

    Olav

Thank Olav. That was a very helpful answer. I wanted to award 6 points but that is greyed out. Could you please let me know if you received 6 points for this post?

I am still looking for answer to question # 2 (Web Dispatcher).

    Hi Srini,

Since I got the full credit on this one...

    For your Web Dispatcher :

Depending on your current version you definately will need to upgrade or reinstall.

SAP recommends SAP Webdispatcher 7.00 for NW04s backend systems.

Please check note 538405 for detailled info on Webdispatcher documentation, versions and patch levels.

    Thanks for the points,

    Best regards,

    Olav
