Oracle Online System Copy

Former Member

We need to populate our T&D environment from the existing Prod environment. We can't do the OFFLINE database method for the system copy and I was wondering if it's possible to do the Online System copy using the database method. Our system is running on Oracle 10gR2. As a DBA I think that it should be possible, as I don't see any difference b/w the SAP Suggested Offline method and an Online consistent method. Any help would be greatly appriciated.

Is it true for all the SAP components? ABAP+Java?? Also can you supply me the link to the actual document that you are talking about? I have seen a document that talks about the offline system copy but not the online one. I will really appriciate it.

Dear Anup,

Yes you can do that,Please refer the 'SAP Homogeneous System Copy Guide' for doing this.

Steps involved for this are

1)backup Control file to trace(On source system)

2)Copy the datafiles, redologs & archive files from source to destination(make sure that datafiles should be in backup mode in source system)

3)Edit the trace file(created at step 1) based on the requirements on the target system and create the control file.

4)Mount the database and apply the logs to make it consistent.

If you have any queries please revert back.
