Hi,

Customization is mainly used for maintaining master table entries essential for the working of the customer;s business processes.

Configuration is also same as customizing but is generally used at creation of transaction level objects or for doing some transaction settings.

But essentially there is not much difference in these 2 terms.

There is a huge difference between customizing and configuration.

Let me explain Configuration first:

Configuration means to set some parameters in sucha way that it suits ur needs. It means that u are a kind of fine tuning the given object.

Configuration means that you have been given a set of choices and you are trying to fit it intoyour requireements by setting the correct values.

Eg> Using the SAP IMG and "Configuring" it may suit ur needs.

Customizing on the other hand means "Custome made" Not a part of the standard functionality as provided by SAP. Ne functionality that is written in ABAP or otherwise is equal to customizing.

That is so because the SAP system may not cater to all the needs of your users.

So this the difference betwee "Customizing" and "Configuration"

Maybe can think along the lines of whether the Standard SAP can provide?

If standard SAP cannot provide and no configuration available for desired result, then its usually considered as customization.

If standard SAP can provide, by setting the configuration accordingly then its configurations?

Duxton,

I think you are right. So at the time of installing an SAP solution we do configure the system. And when we think of some changes to the std.we do customizing.

I think this is the answer.

but even if there is some more clear understanding on this, I would apprecicate.

I thank all of you for the answers.
