Why can configurable materials not be used in service orders?

I receive message IW292 when trying to use a configurable material on service orders. I am trying to understand the reason why this is not supported.

SAP has already released some Support packs to use this functionality from ECC 6 onwards

We are going to be using configurable materials on PS projects, and I'm regression testing as some of these materials we also use is CS orders (yes on the components tab). I receive message IW292. Just trying to understand the logic as to why they cannot be used.

I'm assuming you get this error when entering the configurable material in the Components tab??

If so, then the PM/CS orders cannot handle these types of material.

What are you trying to achieve?
