Hi,
i am trying to do a scenario with following components:
1. Sender: external SAP R/3 System
2. internal XI System
3. Receiver: external receiver System (via OFTP)
I am a little confused how to realize this. I guess its for sure not an A2A scenario but an B2B.
But how to do this. First i tried to introduce the R/3 to the SLD, guess this is the common way. But how to check the communication?! What do i have to configure in the R/3 System, what in the IB??
I am also thinking of doing an integration process but is it really necessary. Do i mix up something or do i need to do both?!
Your help is highly appreciated!!

Hi,
If the Sending SAP system lies with your System landscape, it is an A2A integrattion.
Next, how is your R3 going to send data to XI?
There are 3 ways to do this,
1. IDOC's -- if there is a standrad IDOC to do this.
2. RFC -- Configure a Sender RFC adapter .
3. ABAP Proxies.
take a look at this blog,
Sender RFC Step by Step -- /people/michal.krawczyk2/blog/2005/03/29/configuring-the-sender-rfc-adapter--step-by-step

You do not need an Integration Scneario as such for this Interface.

Thx for your quick answer!
Well the Sender is external, so it has to be a B2B Scenario!!
I would like to use an IDoc but i am not able to connect to the sender system via Integration Repository to Import the IDoc.
What could be the reason? Do i have to use a proxy or should i use a RFC?!
Btw: i am a little confused because sometimes i read about a local integration engine on the via XI connected systems. Is there a need for this, i mean in my scenario there are no Integration Engines installed on the sender or receiver system!
Thx in advance
Hi,
><i>Btw: i am a little confused because sometimes i read about a local integration engine on the via XI connected systems. Is there a need for this, i mean in my scenario there are no Integration Engines installed on the sender or receiver system!</i>
this is for systems running on WAS > = 6.20 . They have a local integration Engine running in them and so they can connect to XI directly using proxies ( ABAP proxies ).

Hi Carsten,
A2A is application to application, when two applications in a company talk to each other we call it an A2A scenario and if it is across companies we call it B2B or buisness to buisness scenario.
The configuration for B2B scenarios is different than A2A scenarios.
Before you proceed, you need to discuss with your Network Architects the right protocol that suits the landscapte.

Hi Carsten,
OFTP is an underlying communication protocol to transfer message to ODETTE format.
Now forget about OFTP. What I would suggest is that, as your sender is R/3 4.6c and your receiver is EDI, I would strongly recommend you to go for Conversion Agent.
SAP Conversion Agent by Itemfield is a data conversion system that enables you to create interfaces between any data formats and XML-based systems. Conversion Agent can convert unstructured, semi-structured, and structured formats to XML, and the other way around.

I hope this helps.

Yes, i already get familiar with conversion agent.
Actually I know what things i have to use but i am not able in detail to start it.
First i would like to do an R/3 - XI connection, after this a simple program to send something from R/3 to XI and back. Guess this is the easiest way for now.
The other track from XI to Odette will be a huge step for me...
Maybe u have some detailed suggestions for a beginner???
Thx Praveen!
Hi Carsten,
I don't have any materials that could help you to start of with. However, I came across these links some time back. Just go thro' them if you find interesting:-

In the mean time, I would keep your request in mind. Will forward if I find some document/material related to B2B scenarios for beginners.
Regards.
Praveen
