Alternative/Substitute materials for production and MRP

Former Member

Hi, I have a client that use a lot the concept of alternate/substitute materials. They have to create 2 materials masters because they aren't exactly exactly the same however for their production if the first one isn't available, they want to see if the second option could be available in case of rush production. We are implentating S4 Hana with Fiori. is there a way that prior placing the PO from the PR to have either a warning, or at least the view that another product could do the work? Before adding a Zfield into MARA/MARC table, into the material master as well as MD04 transaction, is there a way that standard SAP could do this process?

Thank you.

Hi Caetano,

For the similar situation, I have not been able to create the PR for a leading part grouped under MPN-MRP sets and maintained under FFFC.

FFFC having two materials -> Both maintained under same MPN-MRP set for a specific plant, one of them marked as Leading part -> PIR created for non leading part -> MRP Run for the leading part (as that can not be run for the non-leading part now) -> Stock requirement list for non leading part shows "Available quantity determined for the leading part" -> However the Purchase Requistion for the leading part is not created.

I did it for HERB material type (having same base UOM, Mat type, MRP type, MRP group, Period Indicator) but it didnt work.

I did it for HALB material type too (having same base UOM, Mat type, MRP type, MRP group, Period Indicator) but it didnt work.

Hello

There is a functionality called interchangeabiliy of parts, which was part of the DIMP industry solution, and it allows you to plan two different materials together. See the link below for more details: https://help.sap.com/erp2005_ehp_03/helpdata/EN/15/d8c353b677b44ce10000000a174cb4/frameset.htm

This functionality is active by default in S/4 HANA and you create MPN-MRP sets in transaction PIC01.
