I tried moving personal folder reports using Promotion management job from dev to prod.

The job got failed and the error is "Must create object under its defined root folder"

I don't want dependencies to override in prod, all the required dependencies are already available in prod.

Can someone please shed some light on this issue.

It's possible that the user (and the user's favorites folder) has a different CUID in the two environments. This can happen if the user was created in each environment, rather than being created in one and migrated to the other. If this is the case, you will need to move the folder into a public folder (that is common between the two environments), migrate it, then put it in the favorites folder.

LCM wont let you overwrite an object having the same name if the CUID is different. One option you have is:

  1. Rename the user in the target environment (let's say from USER1 to USER1-old)
  2. Perform the migration, this will create a new USER1 user in the target.
  3. Move the reports from USER1's personal folder to USER1-old's personal documents.
  4. Delete USER1 in the target environment.
  5. Rename USER1-old back to USER1.

Hi Joe,

When i tried to follow above steps. In step 3,once the new content of user1 got promoted from development to prod .The user1-old folder got deleted automatically in prod.

Am i missing some thing.

It must still be there, possibly with a different name. LCM doesn't delete content.

Hi Sasi

Can you confirm if both DEV and PROD are in same version (including patch)?

Also, did you get a chance to go thru this - https://archive.sap.com/discussions/thread/3869492

Hi

Can you not promote it by using CMC? Promote it from one CMS to another or promote it to an BIAR file and import it again on prod.

Wessel

The user has different CUID in dev and prod.Instead of synching production back to development,is there any turn around to move the personal folders content from dev to prod with different CUID.

  • Create a Dropbox Public folder.
  • All the users should have privilege to View and Add reports/folder in this Dropbox folder.
  • If the user feels a particular report is needed for him, He has to create a folder with his name and copy all the required reports there.
  • During the cut over you can simply promote the Drop box folder (Please note all the personal documents are in Public folder under users name now)
  • In PROD Users can again copy their required reports to their favorites from the promoted drop box folder.

The approach worked very well in the past as it is the responsibility of the users to copy all the required reports to their drop box folder..

Hi Manikandan,

This works well for one time to move our reports, but down the line when ever user creates a new personal report we need to repeat this process.

one more query, when we are promoting personal folders do we need to add user and security profiles as well if we have different CUIDs in dev and prod.

When i move the reports to prod, the reports are not working due to security issues.
