DDIC Preferences on NWDS 7

Hi all!

Could anybody tell me what the functionality "DDIC Preferences", where you can enter a R/3-System with user & password, is being used for? I couldn' t find any docs on that, but in ABAP Dictionary I found a checkbox "Exclusive Use For Java" in SE11. Is there a possibility to create db-tables in ABAP and use them in Java in this way. And - if so - how exactly does it work?
