Hi,
I am planning to install XI 3.0 on our production server, which already have BW and CRM systems running on it. However, I would be installing a seperate WAS ABAP and WAS JAVA for XI 3.0. Our operating system is OS/400 V5R4. I would like to know if it would cause any performance issues in the future. What are the necessary cautions that I should take?
Thanks
Kiran
Hi Kiran,
As with any additional workload, you need to take into consideration the resources available for running that workload. Depending on how you use XI, it can consume a lot of resources, especially memory. OS/400 has no problem running BW, CRM and XI in the same partition, however, you need to ensure that sufficient resources are available. Check out the following website for recommendations: http://www-03.ibm.com/systems/i/solutions/sapj2ee/index.html
This webpage focuses on EP, but the same memory and tuning recommendation apply to XI initially. The challenge with XI, is that the tuning and the memory requirements is dependent on how XI is used. The volume and size of messages will have a big impact on the tuning and the memory requirements. At the very least I would recommend that you not go below the minimums set forth on the webpage. If you think you XI workload is going to be moderate to heavy, then consider some of the recommendations given for more users.
The bottom line is your resource needs will depend on how you use XI, and the availability of these resources, especially memory, is going to impact your performance.

Kolby
