Hi,

you define queries for a combination of characteristics. Let's tell that you have query with design like this

    Rows:

    EmpID

    Columns:

    Emp Salary

    Emp Allowance.

So tha data in the report is displayed like this

    Emp ID---Sal--

    Allowance

    10001---10000-----2000

Now the data is displayed for all teh employee ID's.

Well in the above case you have only one structure.

So, the definition for a particular cell in not possibel. Which means the data for a particular empId cannot be defined for a particular cell. Where as if you use a structure you can always ensure in which cell teh adta for a particular EmpID is dispalyed. For this reason we need two structures.

Extending the above scenario, supposing we have two structures.

    Rows(Structure)

    EmpID 1

    EmpID 2 and sso on

    Columns

    Salary

    Allowance.

But for EmpId 2 We need to add special allowance in addition to regular allowance which is keyfigure in the cube. This should not be shown for others. But only for EmpId 2. The in the cell editor for that particular cell you can define a new formula which adds up the allowance and also the special allowance.

The utput may be something like this before cell definition:

    Emp ID---Sal----Allowance

    1--

    10000---2000

    2--

    11000---2000

The above allowance for Emp Id 2 does not have special allowance added but only regular allowance.

    After cell definition

    Emp ID---Sal----Allowance

    1--

    10000----2000

    2--

    11000----4000

Here, the definition is given only for that particular cell which gets allowance for EMPID 2 only.

Hope the above exmaple helps you.....
