Just returned from TechEd in Las Vegas with the developer edition of NetWeaver 04s on DVD. Install went okay(?), no errors reported to the screen. However when I attempt to start the NSP app server (Programs --> SAP NetWeaver .. --> NSP --> Start App Server), I receive "StartWait, FAIL: Timeout". When looking at the DB via SAPMMC (the management console) the NSP DB is yellow, the instance is yellow, the message server process is green and the disp+work process is grey.
Then when I attempt to connect via the Logon pad I receive "Partner not reached (host 127.0.0.1, service sapdp00). WSAECONNREFUSED...."
I have the Lookback Adapter installed w/IP address 10.10.0.10
Also have the following entries in my hosts file:
10.10.0.10 IBM-1D1400E959D # Netweaver 2004s setup
127.0.0.1 localhost
The logon pad has been configured with the following values:
App server: localhost
SysID: NSP
SysNbr: 00
I believe I have all the necessary system requirements, etc (1 gig ram, 80 gig HD, 1.7 Mhz).
Any suggestions?
Regards,
Lawrence
Hard to tell, but it seems that your DB is not running properly.
Install the Max DB Manager and try if you can stop and restart the DB with it. Use the "control" user and the password you provided during installation.
If the DB is not running the disp+work can not run and there's no chance to log on.

Raja - I attempted setting the App Server to 10.10.0.10 before sending the original post and experienced the same results.
Dirk - Are you talking about starting the DB with the SAPMMC application? I've tried this several times, but cannot figure out what user name and password to use. The popup window requests an "OS" user & password. I've tried control, my laptop id and SYSDBA.
Can you please provide some more details regarding Stop/Start/Restart the DB via SAPMMC?

Lawrence

Problem solved. After searching the Internet (the whole internet at that) and reading various posts in the SDN, SapToolKit, etc., I started looking at the logs for the installed components. Luckily I stumbled across the stderr0, stderr1 & stderr2 logs in directory <drive>:\SAP\NSP\DVEBMGS00\work.
The message in stderr2 basically stated that my computer name was too long. The process name or profile it was attempting to start contained: my computer name + <some string> and the error stated that this "was over 20 characters" and not allowed. I changed my computers name, which was IBM-<some 11 char nam>, and everything appears to be working.
I don't have the actual message b/c I deleted the Trial Software, renamed my computer, and reinstalled everything. This took about 2 hrs.
So the lesson is: If you're having trouble starting the DB (receiving a timeout error) check these logs.
Thanks to everyone who offered their advise and assistance.
