Execute marketing campaign

Hi experts,

by our client we will set up a <b>demo</b> system for marketing campaigns.

We like to generate marketing activities on a Business partner (running campaign) without sending-out a real email. Is this possible, and how?

possible to:

- have marketing contacts on BP's (visible in IC)

- link through marketing contacts to the used emailform.

What i already did:

- defined communication medium with transaction outgoing email.

-Built up target group.

- created emailform

- Sent target group to channel, but no marketing contacts are saved.

Hopefully anybody can provide some good advice.

Kind regards,

thnx Nick

Hi Nick,

If you do not want to use email as a channel but would like to demonstrate the functionality in the marketing planner, I would set up something like this:

1. Make a marketing specific transaction type (activity) (i.e. a copy of an existing transaction type).

2. Under communication medium, make a new communication medium (for instance Z002 Activity Generation) and under “Communication method and transaction types” for this medium, maintain the following:

Communication method: Generate contact (Visit)

Transaction type: The code of the marketing specific transaction type (activity) you created earlier.

3. In Marketing planner, do the same steps you did before (build up target group, set the campaign and all the elements above it to status “released” and then send target group to channel.

You can check via transaction SM37 whether your job ran successfully or not.

Ideally, you should then find one activity for each BP in your target group under "maintain Activities". One trick if you do have difficulties: Check for the BP´s in your target group whether their details (especially address and/or phone number) are maintained, if these are missing, this can lead to error messages in the job and the activity will then not be created.

The same thing also works with leads there you need a different communication method for your communication medium (generate lead), though.

Hope this helps.

Thnx Lorna,

contacts are created succesfully now!

I more question: Which way i can generate "emails" or link contacts to the forms. (without sending out a real email)

Hopefully you can help out again,

thnx Nick!

Hi Nick,

I don´t of any method to generate email without sending them.

Two things you could try checking out in the transaction CRMD_EMAIL:

There is a communication channel test button which works quite nicely if you want to see for instance how a document looks printed (you can test with or without Business partners), but for e-mail tests, as far as I know you need to have the system set up to send out e-mails to really use this, otherwise you will just get errors.

And there is also a button "mail preview" there which you might also find helpful, even though it´s not exactly what you are looking for.

Hope this helps.

Hi Lorna,

thnx again.

And a hardcopy-letter as output, do just need to maintain a printprofile or even more settings? (beside transaction settings)

Hi Nick,

to my knowledge, you only need to set up the printer(s) via Transaction SPAD (for instance LOCL)to be able to use the communication channel test for this type of document. In the communication channel test itself, you can then just enter for instance "locl" (if this has been set up) and either print on the printer or go to the print preview.

If you want to test this in the marketing planner itself (not just the communication channel test in CRMD_EMAIL) I think you also need to maintain the print profile in customizing. And of course you would also need a separate communication medium(letter).

Hope this helps.

Lorna
