Hi Nag,

I think that the difference between internal and external hierarchies has nothing to do with R/3.

I found the following definition:

1) External hierarchies: these are hierarchies on characteristics. They are defined for exactly one InfoObject. They are tree-like structures.

--> This could be for instance a hierarchy loaded from R/3, but also any hierarchy created manually on an InfoObject.

2) Internal hierarchies:

a) Hierarchical structure determined in the InfoCube modeling. I.e. 0CALDAY, 0CALMONTH and 0CALYEAR already form a hierarchy in the time dimension.

b) In an InfoObject maintenance, a hierarchy can be mapped in the characteristic attributes. I.e. 0MATERIAL, 0MATL_GROUP, 0MATL_TYPE.

HI Nag,

Internal Hierarchy are the ones that came from R3, for example if you have defined a Cost Element Group Hierarchi in R3, you can load it in BW with an infopackage , and then you can keep updated.

External HIerarchy are the ones that you defined inside BW and has not relationship with the R3 Hierarchies, for example : In one report, you want to display the customers group by Countrys , you can create External Hierachy in 0COUNTRY Infoobject defining the hierarchie as you want to view in the report.

Internal hierarcy is one that is maintained in the source system and is transferred , more like the data is internal to the characteristic

External hierarchy is something that is defined in the datawarehouse and not in the source system and can e cheanged in the datawarehouse and not in the source whereas the internal hierarchy is cange in the source system and transferred to the datawarehouse.
