Hello SRM Gurus ,

Please clarify ... Do you think SAP SRM will replace MM in future or MM will be still avaialable.

As SAP taken over Frictionless do you think the next version of SRM will be integrated product with Frictionless and MM

Hello all

My client wants me to receive stock which is brought off a contract using a catologue. we are implementing Inventory module along with WM. Now how do i link material master with the catologue item during receiving against a PO raised by SRM. can i force materail master data into SRM catalogue or can i force SRM catalogue material data into R3 material master ??

Please advice how can i solve this problem of receiving in R3 for a PO rasied against a catalogue item off a contract.

Thank you .

Hi Naveen,

I suggest the following:

  • replication of material master data from R/3 to SRM; so they could communicate

  • catalog:

__ a) add a catalog with the companies own material master (supplier is a dummy - your client's own company) or

__ b) mapping of suppliers material with your material master using BADI (during OCI transfert)

  • use IDOC MBGMCR to transfert material document of goods receipt from SRM to R/3 (if you want to have input in SRM and not in R/3 directly) and

  • in that case Idoc ACC_GOODS_MOVEMENT to transfert FI goods receipt doc.

  • manual handling of transport requirement in R/3 or automatic creation of transport order.

Not shure whether the IDOCs mentioned apply to your releases... Perhaps it gives you an idea...

Thanks Felix

For the first thing you mentioned how do i Replicate R/3 master data to SRM is this possible in R /3 4.70 and SRM 3.0 ??

We plan to use catalog in SRM but receive in R3 and place into stock.

and about the dummy supplier do we need to send PO to this dummy vendor every time we place an order and the dummy supplier inturn get it off a contract??

i`m confused...please help.

thank you.

Hi Naveen,

  • for a manual on replication of material master data from R/3 to SRM please refer to the ConfigGuide Self Service Procurement on service.sap.com/instguides.

(Chapter Data replication).

  • when I wrote "dummy vendor" I only thought of the catalog.

The easiest way (which is not the best way for process) on how to integrate your material master to a catalog would be an own catalog of your (backend) material master. For importing the catalog you would need a supplier ID in the catalog system. This would be your company.

The disadvantage of this solution: The users will find a material at least twice.

Once in the catalog of the supplier(s) and once in your "stock material catalog".

Thus it would be better if you could find a person who is able to match vendor master data with your material master data in order to enhance vendor catalogs with the number of your material master.

Perhaps your purchasing department prefers another solution:

Diminishing material master data and work with contracts of product categories (without product ID).

Hope it helps.

I think this is the suitable question to SAP AG...)))

Regarding Frictionless, SRM is going to be loaded with more integration features related to Master data, Catalogs, Contract & scheduling agreements using MDM.

SAP is going to introduce MDM Functionality in a big way with Netweaver technology so that Catalog management would be integrated with master data. This would replace the existing CCM and Requisite functionalities.

MDM would act as Central Master data and Global data synchronization.

SAP R/3 MM may remain same as backend system so that all user access to procurement functionalities would be done through SRM web applications.

Do not know what will happen in this competitive market. But as consultants we should be prepared to face and go along with the technology. otherwise we will be left out in nowhere...!!!!

Jagdish ,Thanks for your reply.Just need to know , as SRM consultants should we update MDM functionality and integration aspect ? Is MDM as separate module or integrated with SRM ?

Yes. We should updated with the MDM as it is going to integrate core business processes. Details are awiated as it is going to launch only in 2007.

Hi Jayaraj,

Your question is a relevant one. So far, SAP MDM is a complete different system from SRM. But you have standard iViews for MDM in EP and at my last assignment we did use MDM as a catalog.

Basically you can forget SAP MM because you can buy all non-stock managed stuff from SRM and SRM can be integrated to any vendor system through XI and RFC for stock-managed goods purchasing.

MDM is where your material and vendor masters will be created. You will not need to replicate those masters in SRM any more.

So based on our discussion here , MM will not be used for businesses like Financials Services , Banks ,Insuarance companies . Is inventory module will be part of SRM or still should use MM .Any suggestions or advice ???
