Thanks for your help.

Solution is easy.
Do NOT use a temporary sapinst installation directory located under
/usr/sap/<SID>, /samnt/<SID> or /usr/sap/trans.
If you use e.g. /sapmnt/<SID>/<sapinst-tmp-dir> you will get error:
ORA-39700: database must be opened with UPGRADE option
during phase "create database" with Oracle 10g.
I use /oracle/stage/<sapinst-tmp-dir> which runs perfectly.
Cheers
Sven

Hi,
Try this link quite exhaustive but will help you.
http://www.comp.dit.ie/btierney/Oracle10gDoc/server.101/b10763/upgrade.htm
You have guidance here how to upgrade under the section, <b>Upgrade the Database</b>.
Feel free to revert back.

Hi Steph ,
Can I understand the solution that you had to put in place to resolve this. I'm having this same issue with an NW2004S SR2 installation and getting the same mesg in the log file .
The Oracle patch for 10g has also been applied . This was part of th eoriginal shipment. I suspect that wahever worked for you will work for us too.
Thanks
Vipin
Hello Stéphane,
I have got the same error message during the installation of BI 7.0 on AIX 5.2 with Oracle 10.
Did you find a solution for this?

Xavier
