Measure Web Dynpro page size

Hi Everyone,

My client requires us to have the page size of a Web Dynpro page to be 100KB or less. I had a few questions regarding this issue...

1) How do you measure the page size of a Web Dynpro page.

2) I know page size of a Web Dynopro page will vary but I was thinking what would we expect a general page size for a moderately size Web Dynpro page.

3) Finally is it possible to control the page size of a Web Dynpro page? If yes, how? Also, for this question lets assume that there is no data on the page...only UI elements.

Thanks for the help in advance!

Try using tools like HTTPBasicWatch or Ethereal to find out the page size.

When you say page size, I assume it is the amount of data flowing from the server to the client.

If so is the case, it depends on the following

a) Multimedia content (for e.g. jpegs, mpg etc..)

b) Database content being fetched

Static content such as UI Elements, texts etc.. usually tend to be of low volume.

Here is what I did. I saved the page on my desktop and checked the size of the downloaded folder. The size of the page came out to be approximately 800KB. Now this included the jsp and the css scripts.

At the moment I am assuming that no data is being pulled up from the backend. So I wanted to know what would be the typical size of a page without any data on it. Also, is there way that I can limit the size of a page using Web Dynpro?

Thanks a lot for the help!

The Javascript and CSS files will most likely be cached and only during the first load, it will take time. I assume(once again can be verified using Ethereal or HTTPbasicwatch for various iterations) that for any Web Dynpro page these files will automatically be passed from server to client machine.

When you say limiting the size of page - I am not really sure what do you mean.

a) You cannot show less data in the page

b) You cannot show less UI elements

You can optimize, yes. One of the ways is using ViewContainerUIElement.
