Content exchange between MDM and SAP R/3

Hi,

Is there any other option to exchange data between MDM and R/3 other than using XI? We are doing a small POC and we would like to eliminate the need of XI for exchanging data at this point in time.

Thanks,

-Y

    Yes.

We need a middleware in between MDM and R/3. However, why don’t you use SAP XI, being a SAPient?

SAP XI is flexible enough understand SAP R/3, SRM,CRM and all other Non-SAP.

    Sincerely,

    Bala

Just wondering...what about using JCo? Can we write a JAVA application using SAP Java Connector, pick up the file from MDM outbound port, process it and then send the data directly to SAP R/3 using JCo? What are your thoughts about that? How come no body mentioned it?

    Yasir,

Ideally you should use XI for this. But, If your scenario does not require any mappings (as done in XI), then you can try use ftp scripts to transfer the files extracted from R/3 to the appropriate folders of MDM for Import Process. But, it will be difficult to handle acknowledgements etc in this case.

    Hi ,

Definitely XI is recommended , but if you dont want to use XI then any Middleware can take care of it since you will get IDocs from R/3 systems . So Middleware will take care of converting the file .

    Hi Yasir,

since SP04 there are ABAP APIs which can be used to transport data directly from MDM to SAP (ABAP) and vice versa.

The only effort is writing a report using the ABAP APIs.

This the standard, direct way and therefore an alternative to any other approach.

    Regards

    Andreas
