Hi All,
I am a XI developer. I am very new to SRM. Can I get some information(In very simple terms) about the functionallity, purpose or need of SRM and also some information about ASN(Advanced Shipment Notification).
Any links or docs on the same would be helpful.
Thanks & Regards,
Jai Shankar.
Hi Jai,
You have got many replies.
But since you said you are an XI man, something about that.
In MM-SUS scenario XI plays a major role.
as the the R/3 system only outputs IDOC (intermidiate documents) by system design and SUS only accepts XML (extensible mark up language) formats.
This gap is bridged by yr Exchange infrastructure which converts an IDOC to XML and vice versa.
When the XML is originated from SUS it's converted to IDOC by XI.
There are various types of IDOC.
e.g the IDOC for ASN is indiacated by DESADV.

Hi Jai
The following is the process we can use in SUS scenarios.
1 Create a purchase requistion in r3 mm
2 create a purchase order with respect to purchase requisition in r3 mm
3 create a purcashe order response to the purchase order in SUS by the suppliers.
4 Create an ASN by suppliers intimating that the goods hae been supplied and are on the transit in SUS.
When an ASN is created in SUS it Automaticlly creates inbound delivery in R3.
5 Create a GR aginst ASN. in r3
6 create a invoice in R3 or SUS
ASN is usally an intimation tht goods are dispatched,

Nimish,
Thanks a lot for your time and knowledge. Can you pls tell a real world scenario in which these actions(all 6 or some of the ones you mentioned) come into picture.
Also what do you mean by SUS and mm in R/3?(Do you mean Material Management ME21N t-code?)
Thanks & Regards,
Jai Shankar.

Hi Jai,
In SRM we are generally using TWO majore Components.
1) EBP- That is Enterprise Buyers Professional.
2) SUS - Suppliers Self Service.
So when we are talking with supplier system i.e SUS at that time we get ASN - i.e Advance Shipping Notification against your respective Purchas Order which can be created in R/3 or EBP.
Is this is the ans ur looking for please revert in the event of any query.

If this ans solve ur purpose please award the points.
HI Jai
This is a plan driven scenaios with Supplier integration
where we have Materials Management systems and SRM -SUS systems.
SUS s nothing but Supplier Self service scenrios where vendors take part inthe system actively and do following activities
Create a Purchase order response
Create a Advnce shipping notification
Create a Invoice on the system
in R3 system we create a po in tcode me21n.
give me your email id i will send yousome ppts which will help u to understant the process.
