Every database, that can be licensed by SAP is capable of performing good with SAP.
I recommend customers always to choose the database, where they have the best knowledge in house.
It does not make sense, when you have 10 MCSE's inhouse, to choose Oracle. If you have 5 Oracle-Admins, you will not choose SAPDB.
Here is a run-down of my (very own) personal choice:
Oracle: performs great, but needs too much storage(unicode!) (9:1). Most expensive in terms of SAP-License.
MSSQL: Most admins available, since most of MCSEs can work with it. Good performance, especially with Netweaver2004s and SQL2003. (Storage Ratio 5:1)
SAPDB: Least expensive, Technology for LiveCache, latest release stable, but not a lot of Admins have knowledge.
