IDES install 4.7x200 SR1 does not create DB?

Hi,

I want to install IDES on Windows 2000 Server SP4 running on MSSQL 2000.

I prep the environment based on the install guide doco. I used Local installation (don't have AD in the test environment).

I use SAP MSSQL CD to install the MSSQL 2000 which I ran through the provided VBS script. It installs smoothly and applies the SP and the patch for unicode chars.

I created PRDadm (PRD is the SAP ID) and other user account mentioned in the doco, assigned them as administrator.

I managed to get sapinst.exe running and installed the non-unicode ABAP central installation without any complaints. After the installation, I check that there is no DB created in the MSSQL instance. From google, I found that the instance name has to be the same as the SAP ID, is this true?

When I try to start the SAP instance from SAP mmc, it shows error saying it can't connect to DB, which is very obvious.

I wonder if there's anyone who has experience in IDES install (especially v. 4.7x200SR1)?

And also how do I dump the IDES db? It's not in the install guide?

Thank you.

Lito

So you installed DB first and thats fine.

Then when you start SAPINST,after installing CI,you install the DB instance.

Now just run SAPINST once again and run DB instance installtion and the issue will be resolved.

Hi Bapujee,

When you say "So you installed DB first", does it mean in a smooth installation, one has to run sapinst.exe first prior to install the DB?

Also, during the installation, it asks for:

1. sap administrator password

2. sap service password

3. db instance (hostname\instancename)

I believe point 1&2 has nothing to do with point 3 (I mean in regards to the SA password)?

Thank you for your hints.

what I mean is ..

1.First install the DB server, suppose if it is Oracle we use Oracle universal installer by running server.cmd ( but not using SAPINST).

2.Then install central instance using SAPINST

3.Then install DB instance using SAPINST.

In the first step , dont create the database ,creation of DB will be done DB instance installation.

Both in CI and DB instance installations you have to specify SAP system ID and DB SID.usually these two are same.

Regarding your question..

1.to install DB Instance one has to run sapinst.exe

2.point 1 & 2 has nothing to do with 3,but you have to specify the DB sid .
