HANA Cloud Integration Account - SCN User

Hi SAP Colleagues,

we are doing a new implementation of SAP IBP Integrated Business Planning.

We've just received the email from SAP with the details of our HANA Cloud Integration Account.

As you will know, the email with the details of the SAP HANA Cloud Integration Account states, that,

"the HANA Cloud Integration can be accessed with SCN Credentials"

I am surprised that we are using SCN credentials and not S Users for the HCI Access.

One of the challenges this creates amongst others for us as a Customer is, most people in the SCN Community have their SCN account as a "private" account linked to their private email address and details.

On the other hand S User accounts are formal "business" accounts linked to the User's corporate email address and credentials.

As a corporate customer using HANA Cloud and HCI in a corporate manner, do we now need to force our colleagues to where necessary create a "corporate" SCN account linked to their corporate email address ? If yes this is going to create challenges including the inconvenience of one SCN User for personal SCN activities and another SCN User for corporate HANA Cloud activities and the User is going to have to continuously log in and log out of SCN to ensure they are using the correct User for the respective task.

Is there a plan to enable S Users for the HANA Cloud Integration account ?

Or is SAP's target that people in the SAP world have one SCN Account which they use for corporate and personal SAP activities ?

Best regards,

Andy Silvey.

Hi Andy,

As a best practice we only advocate and authenicate S users to SAP Cloud Platform Integration . SAP ID service is the place where you have to register to get initial access to SAP Cloud Platform and SAP ID Service also manages the users of official SAP sites, including the SAP developer and partner community. So if you already have such a user like SCN, then you are already registered with SAP ID Service and is only an option if you would like to use without further configuration. Trust to SAP ID Service is pre-configured on SAP Cloud Platform by default, so you can start using it without further configuration. But like I mentioned, the recommendation is to use S users.

Hi Gayathri,

thank you for confirming.

As an fyi, the "Welcome" email, welcoming the SAP Customer to the HANA Cloud Integration, which we received three weeks ago, recommends the Customer to create an SCN account for accessing the HANA Cloud Integration.

It might be worth SAP modifying the "HANA Cloud Integration Welcome" email to be in line with what you have communicated here and to avoid confusing Customers.

Best regards and thank you again for providing the definitive SAP response on this subject,

Andy.

Hi Steve,

thanks for the feedback.

I'll try it and report back here.

I have the same concerns as you and also about processes for User Provisioning.

Best regards,

Andy.

I agree that suggesting using an "SCN User" for this purpose makes no sense. I ignored that suggestion and created an S-user for our HCI integrations, and that works fine. It makes a whole lot more sense to me.

I still have concerns over things like password expiry of this user causing integrations to fail. We'll see how that plays out...

Hi Andy

Your regular, corporate S-users will work, no worries.

just to add, some more thoughts,

I am very surprised we are using the SCN User credentials to access the HANA Cloud Platform.

Maybe I am old fashioned and stuck in the wrong generation mindset, but I see the SCN as more informal and personal

and less corporate, and furthermore my SCN account (which even has the wrong name as I first started in 2004/2005 when

it was still popular to have pseudo names when using the InterWeb) is connected to my personal GMAIL account.

I see my S User for SAP Support Portal as my formal corporate SAP User and I was expecting HCI access to be with

S User where my company has overall control over the account and it's Roles and Authorisations.

So we as a customer need to quickly think what we are going to do. Will we support our required employees to use their

"personal" SCN accounts for HCI access, will they even be happy to do that ? and these accounts which receive notifications

to private email addresses.

Or will we come up with a process where our required employees, we the company create them a Company-UserName SCN account

for accessing the HCI HANA Cloud Service ?

The latter is going to cause the employees inconvenience because the web browser will have confusion with cookies when the employee

has to log in and log out of the SCN and HCI to ensure they are using their right User for what they want to do.

Hi Morten,

thank you for the speedy reply.

It would have been nice if SAP had said that in the HCI invitation email, instead of suggestion that SCN account is the only option by only describing that the way to access HCI is with the SCN account.

Ok, we will test the S-User access and I'll report back here if it works.

Best regards,

Andy.
