Note 705888 references DBSL but I have no clue how to access it or what patch level we have.
What does DBSL do?
And...when we're done with that...can anyone point me to a glossary of terms on the SAP web site?
Thanks in advance,
Robert
Hi Robert,
The object lib_dbsl is a binary patch to your Kernel. Volker once gave us the advice that anytime we update our kernel ( called DW on the download site), we should also download and update the Lib_dbsl, tp, and R3trans. Procedures have changed for updating kernels so you need to read note 19466 - the basics on kernel patches.

DBSL is a Database driver that translates SAP generic requests to vendor specific ones. One good explanation is SAP's own description of DB Connect:
http://help.sap.com/saphelp_erp2004/helpdata/en/f3/914f3445194d468f652d45494230b1/frameset.htm
For the glossary, try:

Hi Robert,
Tcode SM51 -> "Release Notes" shows the DBSL level currently used.
Copied from http://www.4soi.de/sap-programs.php
lib_dbsl - The Database-Shared Library for the kernel programs (as of 4.5A). It is still true for 6.40 kernel and for other platforms (combinations of OS and DBMS).
As SAP keeps inventing new terms for new technologies/solutions, a complete glossary is hard to find. Google "SAP glossary", the 46B help may not be updated, and the one from sapfans.com may be far from complete...
Good luck,
Victor
