We are attempting to migrate from an 820 iSeries box to a new 520 i5, both are at V5R3.
As information, I have been away from SAP and basis for about four years. Due to personnel changes, I'm now returning to it. During the interim, we upgraded from version 4.0B to "SAP R/3 ENTERPRISE 47X110" (according to the system information on SMP). Color me clueless, mostly.
We have migrated our DEV instance by restoring a complete system backup on the new machine with an LPAR that has the same configuration as the old machine plus some TCPIP tweaks. We brought the old machine down and brought up the new LPAR. So far, so good.
We deleted SQLPKGS and can actually start the instance and get to a signon screen in SAPGui. However, any attempt to sign on results in error message: "Logon refused (valid license not installed)".
According to the SMP white paper on license keys, you're supposed to be able to use transaction SLICENSE and enter the new key. How do you get to the transaction to enter the new key when you can't sign on without a new key??!!
Will the old command line saplicense (I think that's it) command still function?
Any help is appreciated.
Robert

Thanks to both of you!
That solved the problem.

Hi Robert,
Yes, saplicense '-get' then saplicense '-install' work just like before.
I would logon with <SID>OFR to get all the right parameters.
Good luck,
Victor
