Hi all,
Has anyone experience with using informatica, oracle warehouse builder or other best of breed ETL solutions at the backend of of BW? I'm trying to find out in which situations the ETL capabilities in BW are not sufficient and what the main reasons are to choose for an additional tool like informatica. And where can I find a good tool comparison?
Regards, Pieter
Hi Pieter,
consider that these tools are also scheduler of extraction activities and are also able to transform the single data in different way for the difference target system.
When you have a lot of interfaces use also these tools for performance problems on BW.

Hi,
ETL tools are mainly used if you are using non R3 source systems, and you want to do transformations with the data before bringing it to BW. The reverse is also true, ex. if you are sending data from BW to some legacy system etc.
In our project we use ETL for both type of situations as the data formats are totally different from the std R3 ones. Also the data fields are different and there is a certain format in which we need to receive and send the data. In both case flat files are generated that we load/send out.
Cheers,
Kedar
