Loading second Infocube from an ODS

Hi SDN,

I have a cube C1 with already data in it through the ODS. I have copied C1 to C2 and would like the same data to come in C2 from the ODS. After I create the update rules, how do I get in the data into C2?

Thanks

There are two different ways depending on your requirements. If (1) you still need to update C1 AND (2) you fill both cubes by delta handling

you should create an Export datasource from C1, do a full upload into C2 and switch the data targets in the delta InfoPackage.

Otherwise go to the ODS, choose 'Update DataTargets...', switch to Initial update. Now choose Scheduler -> Init Selection for source systems..., mark the request and delete it. Now go to the data targets tab and turn off C1. Then you can schedule the InfoPackage.

Best regards

Hi All,

Thanks for the suggestions.

Using 'Update Data Targets' I am unable to schedule because though I see C2 in Data Targets, the message says that delta for the request so and so already processed. I selected 'Initial Update' to set up the load. I did uncheck C1 from the list of data targets. I also cannot do anything with Data Selection tab.

If I use the method of creating an export data source from C1, how can I avoid that it does not get transported to QAS or PRD?

Please help.

Safdar,

Its better to do full load from ODS to CUBE2. Once you done, you can delete existing intialization and do init without data transfer.

Hope it Helps

Srini,

My desire is to not disturb Cube1 because Cube2 is only to investigate a few modifications. How do I ensure that using this method? What should I change or delete after I am done?

Thanks.

Hi Safdar,

If you dont want delta from ODS to CUBE2, then just do full from ODS to CUBE2. No need to delete the existing initialization from ODS to CUBE1.

Or create export data source on CUBE1 and load data from CUBE1 to CUBE2(you have to explicitly generate in each system, even in Production) so you no need to bother about transport.

Hi Safdar,

lets try in this way:

1)upload your last delta to C1.

2)Maka a Full upload from ODS to C2.

3)Delete init request from ODS to C1 from Infopackage --> Scheduler --> Init option...

4)Make an Init without data Transfer from ODS to C1 and C2.

5)Start delta upload to C1 and C2.

Ciao.

Hi Safdar,

if you are using delta upload from ODS to Cubes I suggest you to proceed in this way:

1) Make last delta update from ODS to C1

2)Copy data from C1 to C2 building a DataSource on C1 and Update Rules from C1 to C2.

3)Delete first Init from ODS to C1.

4)Make an Init from ODS to C1 and C2 without data transfer.

5)Start delta update from ODS to C1 and C2.

Ciao.

Hi Safdar,

Do full loads from ODS to CUBE2(selectively on year or at one go) for all existing data in ODS.

Remove existing initializationa and do initialize from ODS to CUBE1 and CUBE2 with out data transfer. Load data to ODS and puse deltas to two cubes

Hope it Helps

I think through an initial update (or full, as you need)...

otherwise you can also (and it would be better) to copy data from one cube to the new one, then to init without data transfer from the ODS and then to load delta records...

Hope it helps!
