why core data services?

Hello everyone,

I am new to sap hana.
Recently i came across CDS ( core data services ) in hana.

I believe it is used to create tables, views, procedures, sequences in sap hana.

The same can be done via GUI actions. By right clicking on the schema , creating a package then further creating a table or view through hana studio.

What is the difference between the two approaches and when to uses either?

when you're mentioning across CDS in HANA, would be please more specific? do you mean creationg CDS similar as creation Calculation view/Analytical View in HANA?

regarding the CDS in ABAP, then it's totally an ABAP object in Netweaver. more details, please refer to http://help-legacy.sap.com/abapdocu_750/en/abencds.htm

maybe some screenshot might help explain the question.

I guess CDS is running on the DB server which is HANA but not the application server which is ABAP stack and it will leverage the memory DB features to read data in way of column and much more fast.

Another reason is HANA is not based on classic application level like before ( that is it does not have application framework like BO c lass ), and the data should be provided to the consumer like ODATA, so CDS view is layer with responsibility for application logic as well as data feeder. PlusSAP HANA now needs to develop application directly on the DB level, CDS provides the semantics function with its native DDL for this...

please check the blog for more CDS – One Concept, Two Flavors, it will help you!
