Characteristic Relationships

Hi Gurus,

I'm trying to create a characteristic relationhip of 'derivation, combination check and proposal', at the Planning area level.

But in the pull-down window where you define the 'Basic characteristic' I only see a few to choose from and not the one I want. For example I only see a couple of them.

What determines what appears in the pull-down window, and how can i make sure the characteristic that I want appears there and is available to choose from, and it's available attribute?

Does this have to be defined at the cube level?

Thanks all.

Hi

For char derivation you should exclude from your level the chars that you want to derive. Otherwise if you have these chars in your level it is impossible to derive them.

the characteristic relationship type is 'attribute', not exit.

For example the only possiblities that come up in my pull down menu are, cost center, etc, and that's it. I don't see any other possibilities presented.

Is that because I've included them in the level already?

I believe that the characteristic I want to select, must also physically exist in the cube as well, not just as a navigational attribute of another characteristic in the cube, correct?

Hi Ehab,

You are correct. The Characteristic must also exist in the cube in order to be derived. Remember the rule is that if a characteristic is to be used in a planning scenario it must be in the cube. So add the characteristic to the cube and you should be fine

Thanks Dennis.

But I'm assuming at the same time, the characteristic that you want to use as your 'basic characteristic' for the purpose of deriving an attribute, cannot be in the level, is that correct? Or is it the attribute that you want to derive from the basic characteristic, is the one that shouldn't be in the level ?

Can you email me your number, i keep losing it.

Cheers.

Hi Ehab,

I'm not 100% sure since my derivations are on a single planning area with no levels defined. The actual planning is done on a multi-planning area. In that case I have planning levels defined in some cases using both characteristics basic and derived. Ex...Material and Material Type. So if the same rules apply you should be able to use both in your planning levels since the function is looking at the master data to derive the value.

I sent my info in the e-mail. Call my cell.
