how do we import design objects ?

Hello friends,

I have a s/w component with a namespace in it containing all my Design objects in the Integration repository(Design). There is an option called Export which i assume exports entire namespace along with the design objects within it to a tpz file.

now i want to know is whether i can import this tpz file again into Xi, if yes then how because when i tried importing it (Tools-> Import Design Objects...) , it says No Object Found.

I also want to know is that whether i can import this Namespace on some other XI deployed on some other machine.

Thanks !!!

Hi Rohit,

"when i tried importing it (Tools-> Import Design Objects...) , it says No Object Found."

Check if you have exported properly. You could probably go to the folder where the file has been placed and see if the file is present.

"I also want to know is that whether i can import this Namespace on some other XI deployed on some other machine."

You can surely import this .tpz file into another XI box. But to be able to import it, after exporting it from (say) XI1, place it in the import folder of (say)XI2..only then you will be able to see it in the IR while trying to import.

Hi Rohit,

now i want to know is whether i can import this tpz file again into Xi, if yes then how because when i tried importing it (Tools-> Import Design Objects...) , it says No Object Found.

Yes, when you say TOOLS --> IMPORT , you should be able to import your exported namespace into the IR. Just make sure, you are giving the correct TPZ file to be imported into XI.

I also want to know is that whether i can import this Namespace on some other XI deployed on some other machine.

Yes , you surely can and that is the exact reason why the export and import actually exist. One option that is normally used when you want to migrate your objects from Dev to QA to Prod and so on is this import and export.

Hi,

The Import and Export is one of the maechanism for transporting you Objects.

Please read here more for clarity:

http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/a8/5e56006c17e748a68bb3843ed5aab8/content.htm

You need to configure you SLD too for the transport to other SAP XI systems.

hey friends

thanks for your replies, i did put my tpz file in import directory and now that pops up when i click import. but it dosent actually get imported.

i mean say i exported an entire namespace of one componenet to tpz file .

now i created a new s/w componenet in SLd and imported that in the repositiry(design). now how do i import my tpz file containing namespace and design objects of that component into this new s/w component.

Hey Rohit...

To get a very clear idea about tpz file transport...the setting u have done in the SLD as you mentioned are actually enough, you might be missing something very small perhaps!...just go through these two blogs wich discuss file transport in detail:-

/people/sravya.talanki2/blog/2005/11/02/overview-of-transition-from-dev-to-qa-in-xi and https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/weblogs?blog=/pub/wlg/2651.
