AdsLocal multiuser performance

I am working on an app that uses Ads LOCAL database, not the "Server" based product. The issue is the purpose is to be remote access and not rely on an application that has a "Service" running, but handled through the local DLLs for the database activity. Previously working with Visual FoxPro, that performance and reliability in multi-user environment was unparalleled. Having to develop without it, this was the alternative product to use that does not require a "SERVER" based product. Although the application can have the data on a network share location, and we can read/write, the performance is slow. Add a second user, and it gets painful. Adding a third to the network share path, and the performance crawls.

I looked into the AdsLocal.cfg file to help issues of corruption to index when multiple users trying to add data near simultaneously. Any ideas, suggestions, guidance?

    Don,

The Advantage Local Server specifically does not support multi-user access to the database, as described here. I am not sure how you were able to allow multiple users before, unless they simply were not connecting at the same time. If you were using free tables, the ALS would allow users to access different tables, but as soon as two needed to access the same table at the same time, the second user would have to wait for the table to be released.

If you need multi-user support, you need to be running the Advantage Database Server in a client/server environment.

    I hope this helps,
