Remote Installation/Admin Performance

Hi All,

Most of our Basis team is not local to the iSeries. We've found that SAPinst, SDM, etc. run extremely slow when you're not directly attached to the same LAN as the iSeries. We have a temporary work-around using XP's remote desktop to log in to a spare PC near the data center and then connect locally to the iSeries. This won't be an option when we move the Dev/QA/Failover system to a corporate data center. I'd like to here what solutions others are using for remote installation and administration. I'm considering using the internal Windows server in the iSeries (can't get more local than that).

    Hi Stan,

unfortunately, that is the problem everybody is seeing. The performance of SAPinst is HIGHLY dependent on the network-speed between the SAPinst-PC and the i5.

This will become better with 7.10 next year - but before that, this can only be "workarounded" as you mentioned.
