crystal reports 2016 migration

1. Facing an issue with reports migrated from CR 2008, 3.1 or 4.1 into BI 4.2 (with CR 2016) where we are not able to change the connection simply by updating the connection (set database location). Instead, we have to re-map all the fields when we choose a new connection and it forces us to copy the SQL from existing connection and paste it to the new connection while recreating all the prompts from scratch.

2. For some reports, as soon as we open a report from repository, it simply says:

This report file is based on a Crystal Query and cannot be viewed.

In order to view this report it must be set to a different data source. To change the report data source please open it in the Crystal Reports designer application and use the "Set Data Source Location..." operation.






This only gives an option to click "OK" and then it closes the report.

Reports from "Crystal Query" datasources are not supported in the latest versions of CR, see:
