Hi all,

Is it possible to run ordrinary windows-applications with a GUI-screen, for example MS Outlook, in or from within the portal?

If yes: Where can I find out more?

Sturla

Hi Sturla,

if you are interested in the solution for NetWeaver you can find a good description in the following PDF:

or an english source: http://www.citrix.com/English/partners/partnerFeature.asp?partnerID=14785&featureID=14807

Hei,

I have never heard of such a feature. I guess the things you want to include in the portal has to be web based.

However, since you use MS Outlook as example, you are aware that is quite "normal" to include the Outlook Web Access in the portal.

Hi Jørgen,

Thanks for the reply.

I don't know much about the portal, but I attended a couple of cources last fall. Never used the product since then, and I can't remember too much form the cources. My boss keeps asking me questions about the portal, and lucky me told him that I beleived the content had to be web based, like for example Outlook Web Access. He wasn't pleased with my answer, so I keep seraching...

I came over Citrix MetaFrame Presentation Server . Maybe that coud be the solution(?)

Hello Sturla,

it actually looks quite interessting, would be interesting to see if anyone has practical experience with this software and/or on how well it integrates into SAP portal.

What are your requirements?, are the users supposed to run all programs (Office, outlook etc) through the portal?

Jørgen

Hi Jørgen,

Yes, I beleive the goal is to run all, or at least most, programs thru the portal.

Since we have as good as no experience with the portal, I guess we'll face some challanges with our web-based apps. We also have a large GUI-based app (written in Progress 4GL) that we would like to run thru the portal. Rewriting this app to web is not an issue since the future plan is to replace it with a SAP product. As I see it, we can rewrite some of the functions to web-based or take a closer look into this Citrix product.

Sturla
